In September 2015, Athletes vs Epilepsy Ambassador and CrossFit athlete Jenny LaBaw set off to raise awareness and funds for the Epilepsy Foundation through her Move Mountains campaign. Her goal was to run across the state of Colorado (a total of 500 miles) and raise $50,000. On October 19th, she accomplished her incredible feat by running 500 miles and raising over $52,000. Jenny also set and accomplished a third goal that she set for the campaign. Move Mountains was an event to not only bring awareness to epilepsy, but also served to motivate individuals to take control and live life to the fullest.

We asked Jenny to answer these 10 fun and informative questions about her workouts, and inspirations. Read on for Jenny LaBaw’s answers:

Profession: Professional Athlete and Trainer, 2-time Reebok CrossFit Games competitor, Program Manager of Wellness Institute – Epilepsy Foundation
- Which three words would your friends use to describe you?
Passionate, Caring, Genuine
- Who inspires you in your athletic pursuits and why?
My boyfriend, Marcus Brown. He inspires me to understand WHY I am doing the things I am doing, moving the way I am moving and how I can help others in the process. When you do this, it gives a new meaning to your passion of athletics, a new perspective and results in better performance.
- What is the happiest moment of your life thus far?
This is impossible for me… I have so many happy days and so many things I am thankful for in my life. If I had to pick one (well two), they are the days I found out that my nephews were born (Grady and Hudson).
- If you could take a month-long vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
There are SOOOO many places… how do I pick just one. Possibly trekking through the Swiss Alps… I am a mountain girl through and through.
- What is your favorite time of day to work out/train and why?
If I’m doing something outside (running/mtn biking/hiking/etc), my favorite time of day is first thing in the morning or right at dusk because it’s peaceful and is typically my favorite part of the day, so I either get to start or end my day with this. If I’m in the gym, 10a-12p is my favorite time because it’s when my body feels the most awake and ready to perform.
- What is your go-to snack to give you energy before a workout or competition?
I’m pretty plane jane with my eating, but usually mashed sweet potatoes and applesauce with cinnamon.
- What is your favorite book?
I can’t pick just one… Daring Greatly, Unbroken, Life of Pi
- How do you unwind and de-stress after a competition?
I go camping with my family, get out in nature and appreciate life.
- What is your most treasured possession?
My “Curse of Sopris” necklace. My mom gave it to me when I left home for college… a local jeweler (Glenwood Springs, CO) makes it and the curse is if you wear this necklace you will always return to the valley.
- What advice would you give young athletes?
Find the reason WHY you are doing what you’re doing and it will mean more, you’ll believe it in more, and you’ll perform better.
